What type of COVID-19 test do you use?
We use the Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. RT-PCR test for active-virus SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19).
Is this a NAAT test?
The RT-PCR test is a type of nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT).
What type of sample is taken? Will it hurt?
Anterior nares (nasal) swabs are used, which are more comfortable than deeper nasopharyngeal swabs.
Does the new strain of COVID-19 affect your test results?
ADx Healthcare and its laboratory partner, Northwest Laboratory, utilize the Thermo-Fisher Taqpath assay for Covid-19 detection by RT-PCR. This assay targets three separate viral genes for Covid-19 detection. One of these genes is the gene that is mutated in the strain currently circulating primarily in England. This mutation does not appear to affect the performance of the assay, and even if it did prevent detection of the S gene the assay would still be unaffected since a Positive result is defined as at least two of the three genes being detected. Where are the samples tested?
All samples are tested at our parent company, Northwest Laboratory, a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory in Washington state.
When will I get my results?
Results will be provided by midnight, 2 days following your test date. Exceptions are for tests taken on weekends or holidays, for which results will be provided by midnight 3 days following testing (due to limitations in available shipping options).
Will I get results over the weekend?
Our lab processes samples 7-days per week so there is no weekend delay to receiving your results.
Can I get tested on the weekend?
We are currently open Saturdays from 8am-2pm at our Sonoma drive-through location (use zip code 95476 when using our testing location search tool). To arrange for testing outside of our scheduled operating hours, please call 206-486-8288 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
What is expedited processing and how much does it cost?
With expedited processing, results will be available by 7pm the day after testing. Expedited results incur an additional $100/ test fee and must be scheduled by contacting 206-486-8288 or emailing email@example.com.
Do you offer the antibody test?
We don’t currently offer the COVID-19 antibody test at our drive-through locations.
Do you take insurance?
All of our testing is private pay and we do not accept insurance. To find a testing option that accepts your insurance, contact your primary care provider.
What do I need to request reimbursement from my insurance?
Please contact your insurance carrier directly to inquire about specific rules and regulations regarding insurance reimbursement for COVID-19 testing. Refer to the laboratory requisition (order) provided in your confirmation email for much of the required information, which is also included here:

Do you offer testing outside of California?
We currently provide testing in Medford, OR, throughout California, and also pre-travel screening to Alaska Marine Highway passengers departing out of Bellingham, Washington.
