What type of COVID-19 test do you use?

We use the Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. RT-PCR test for active-virus SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19).

Is this a NAAT test?

The RT-PCR test is a type of nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT).

What type of sample is taken? Will it hurt?

Anterior nares (nasal) swabs are used, which are more comfortable than deeper nasopharyngeal swabs.

Does the new strain of COVID-19 affect your test results?
Our PCR test detects positive cases, including positives from the Delta variant. However, the test does not currently distinguish between the different variants of the virus.
To determine which positive cases are due to the Delta variant, our lab, based in Bellingham, WA, has instructions from the Washington Department of Health to send positive tests out for genetic sequencing. 
While the results of genetic sequencing are used for Departement of Health reporting purposes, our lab does not receive information on individual tests so we are unable to provide the patient with information specific to the Delta variant at this time.
Where are the samples tested?

All samples are tested at our parent company, Northwest Laboratory, a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory in Washington state.

When will I get my results?

Results will be provided by midnight, 2 days following your test date. Exceptions are for tests taken on weekends or holidays, for which results will be provided by midnight 3 days following testing (due to limitations in available shipping options).

Will I get results over the weekend?

Our lab processes samples 7-days per week so there is no weekend delay to receiving your results.

What is expedited processing and how much does it cost?

With expedited processing, results will be available by 7pm the day after testing. Expedited results incur an additional $100/ test fee and must be scheduled by contacting 206-486-8288 or emailing support@adxhealthcare.com.

Do you offer the antibody test?

We don’t currently offer the COVID-19 antibody test at our drive-through locations.

Do you take insurance?

All of our testing is private pay and we do not accept insurance. To find a testing option that accepts your insurance, contact your primary care provider.

What do I need to request reimbursement from my insurance?

Please contact your insurance carrier directly to inquire about specific rules and regulations regarding insurance reimbursement for COVID-19 testing. Refer to the laboratory requisition (order) provided in your confirmation email for much of the required information. Do you offer testing outside of California?

We currently provide testing throughout California, and also pre-travel screening to Alaska Marine Highway passengers departing out of Bellingham, Washington.
